Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has filed a petition with the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), urging an investigation into the sale of six hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Bryan Acheampong.

Ablakwa disclosed that documents in his possession indicate SSNIT’s intention to sell a majority 60% stake in six hotels to the Minister for Food and Agriculture.

He has requested CHRAJ to halt the sale of the hotels to Acheampong.

In his petition, Ablakwa asserts that the sale of SSNIT’s shares in the hotels lacks due process and violates procurement procedures.

He highlights concerns regarding conflict of interest, abuse of power, lack of due process, procurement breaches, cronyism, and graft.

Ablakwa also raises constitutional issues, alleging that Acheampong has not obtained permission from the Speaker of Parliament to hold an office of profit, as required by the Constitution.

Expressing his longstanding belief against public officials participating in the purchase of state assets, Ablakwa questions the rationale behind the sale of profitable SSNIT hotels and expresses concerns about potential job losses if the sale is finalized.

He concludes with a plea for intervention to prevent what he perceives as an unethical transaction not in the national interest, urging for the defeat of “state capture.”

The hotels in question include Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and Trust Lodge Hotel.
