2024 Edition of BBC Komla Dumor Awards Launched

The BBC is on the lookout for a rising star in African journalism to receive the prestigious BBC News Komla Dumor Award, now entering its ninth year.
Journalists from all over Africa are encouraged to submit their applications for this award, designed to discover and promote emerging talent from the continent.
The recipient will spend three months at the BBC headquarters in London, where they will acquire valuable skills and experience. Applications close on March 15, 2023, at 23:59 GMT.
Established in memory of Komla Dumor, an exceptional Ghanaian broadcaster and BBC World News presenter who tragically passed away at the age of 41 a decade ago, the award aims to honor his legacy.
Dumor’s widow, Kwansema Dumor, expressed her pride in her husband’s impact at the BBC and gratitude to the organization for commemorating him through this prize.
The BBC is urging journalists from across Africa to vie for this award, which seeks to highlight and honor outstanding journalistic talent based on the continent.
In addition to receiving training, the awardee will have the opportunity to travel to an African country to report on a story they have researched, with the report broadcasted to the BBC’s global audience.
Recognized for his advocacy of robust, dynamic journalism and his dedication to comprehensively and authentically covering African stories, Dumor left a lasting impact on Africa and the world. The BBC is committed to upholding his legacy by empowering African journalists to tell original and nuanced stories that resonate with international audiences.
