Electoral Commission Replaces Yasarko Press for 2024 Ballot Printing Due to Equipment Issues
The Electoral Commission (EC) has decided to reassign the printing of ballot papers for the Oti and Western North regions to two other firms, Buck Press and Acts Commercials, following reported equipment malfunctions at Yasarko Press. Yasarko Press, which was originally designated for this important task, informed the EC last week about a critical failure in one of their printing machines. As a result, both parties came to a mutual decision to discontinue Yasarko’s role in the ballot printing process for the forthcoming 2024 elections.
In a statement released on October 27, 2024, EC Deputy Chairman Samuel Tettey provided assurances that the transition to Buck Press and Acts Commercials—both of which have solid reputations in the printing industry—will not interfere with the election timeline. He emphasized that this decision was made to ensure the timely preparation of ballots. Furthermore, the EC defended Yasarko Press’s long-standing reliability, having been responsible for printing ballots since 1998, in response to recent criticisms from the National Democratic Congress regarding the company’s capabilities.
The EC also confirmed that all political parties and independent candidates participating in the 2024 elections have been notified about this development. This step highlights the Commission’s dedication to maintaining transparency and efficiency as it continues to prepare for the upcoming electoral process. The swift action taken reflects the EC’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the election and ensuring that all necessary measures are in place for a smooth voting experience.
