258 Ghanaians were Deported from the United States Between 2021 - 2024

According to official data from the Enforcement and Removal Operations division of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), 258 Ghanaian nationals were deported by the agency between 2021 and 2024.

Criminal charges were among the many immigration violations that led to these deportations.

According to ICE data, the number of Ghanaians deported each year exhibits a shifting trend:

56 deportees in 2021
46 deportees in 2022
62 deportees in 2023
94 deportees in 2024

A number of large U.S. cities, including Newark (25), New Orleans (23), Philadelphia (22), Atlanta (21), San Diego (11), and Washington, D.C. (10), had these persons removed.

Under ICE’s more stringent enforcement tactics, the deportation statistics for Ghanaians are a part of a larger pattern of increased removals. During the same time frame: 417 citizens of Nigeria were deported.
The largest group, 206,943 Mexican nationals, were expelled. Data on the nationalities of people detained or removed in 2025 has not yet been made public by ICE.

ICE has underlined its dedication to upholding immigration rules while placing a high priority on national security and public safety. The agency’s strategy specifically targets people with criminal histories. ICE has increased operations, including targeted arrests and extensive raids, in accordance with this plan.

Enforcement grew much more stringent under the Trump administration, and many operations resulted in large arrests. For example, 956 people were arrested in a single day of operation.

According to a previous Washington Post article, Trump administration officials pushed ICE to arrest 1,200–1,500 people every day, greatly stepping up enforcement in comparison to prior administrations. The goal of ICE, according to Tom Homan, the agency’s acting director at the time, was to apprehend as many criminals as possible.

Deportation rates may keep rising as a result of continuous policy changes and tighter border controls. The goal of preventing “potentially dangerous criminal aliens from entering our communities” has been reaffirmed by ICE.

The impact of tougher immigration enforcement measures is demonstrated by the expulsion of 258 Ghanaians during a four-year period. Ghanaians and other foreign nationals in the United States need to be aware of changing immigration laws as ICE continues to prioritize the removal of people with criminal records and other immigration infractions.
