In the aftermath of his triumph as the Artiste of the Year (AOTY) at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), Stonebwoy has addressed Baba Sadiq’s public endorsement of King Promise for the award. The reggae dancehall star spoke candidly in an interview with Berla Mundi on TV3 on June 7, dismissing Sadiq’s opinion as lacking validity, given the final results.

Baba Sadiq, a notable figure in the entertainment sector, had voiced his support for King Promise to win the prestigious award before the event.

However, Stonebwoy, who secured the accolade, countered Sadiq’s view by stating, “I was not disappointed [with him choosing King Promise].

Eventually, I think the results have taught him that his opinion does not hold any water when it comes to reality.”

Stonebwoy, who received 13 nominations and took home six awards, including Reggae Dancehall Artiste and Artiste of the Year, expressed his thoughts on the social media debate that had been brewing about the AOTY award. He noted that he only became aware of the online discussions a week before the event.

Stonebwoy also highlighted the need for broader recognition across all nominees in the AOTY category. He felt that the intense focus on just himself and King Promise overshadowed the contributions of the other nominees.

“One thing I felt was like I wish the attention would be spread out across all the nominees because it was not only a Stonebwoy and King Promise thing,” he explained. “Limiting it to two artistes almost always takes away the fact that all nominees have worked and not just the two.”

Despite the heated debate, Stonebwoy emphasized that fans and industry pundits should recognize the efforts of all nominated artists rather than narrowing the spotlight to just a few. This call for more inclusive recognition aims to acknowledge the hard work and talent across the entire spectrum of nominees.
