ABBA Requests Trump to Stop Using Their Music for Campaign Rallies
Trending Entertainment News : ABBA demands Trump cease using their music at campaign rallies, highlighting the ongoing clash between artists and political campaigns.
Swedish pop legends ABBA have joined a growing list of musicians asking former U.S. President Donald Trump to stop using their music during his campaign events. The group’s record label, Universal Music, released a formal statement on behalf of the band, urging Trump to cease playing their songs at his rallies and to remove any online videos that feature their music from recent campaign stops.
The label’s statement highlighted that the band members were unaware that their music had been used without permission and stated, “Together with the members of ABBA, we have discovered that videos have been released where ABBA’s music has been used at Trump events, and we have therefore requested that such use be immediately removed and taken down.” The statement underscored that no authorization or license had been granted for Trump’s use of their songs. This request came after reports from the Swedish newspaper *Svenska Dagbladet*, which revealed that several ABBA classics, such as “The Winner Takes It All,” “Money, Money, Money,” and “Dancing Queen,” were played at a Trump rally in Minnesota on July 27. Minnesota has a large population of Swedish-Americans, which made the use of the band’s music particularly notable at the event.
ABBA, whose name is derived from the first letters of its members’ names—Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, and Anni-Frid—achieved international fame in the 1970s and early 80s with their unique blend of pop and disco. While the band split in 1982, their music remains a cultural staple worldwide.
ABBA’s action aligns with other prominent artists like Rihanna, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Petty’s estate, who have all requested that Trump stop using their music during his presidential campaigns. Though ABBA’s members haven’t commented directly, their spokesperson confirmed their support for Universal Music’s demand.
