Ablakwa Leads Protest Against SSNIT Hotels Sale to Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, is set to lead a demonstration today against the sale of a 60% stake in four hotels owned by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong, Minister of Food and Agriculture.
Ablakwa, along with Organised Labour and other stakeholders, has raised concerns about the process that led to Rock City Hotel being chosen as the buyer for the hotels. In an interview with Citi News, Ablakwa explained that the protest aims to pressure the government into halting the sale.
He criticized the decision, questioning why Bryan Acheampong, who is part of the government cabinet, did not use his expertise and capacity to improve the hotels before purchasing them. Ablakwa emphasized that Acheampong’s direct benefit as the majority shareholder of Rock City Hotel raises ethical concerns, suggesting it reflects a form of state capture by government appointees.

“This is clearly a case of state capture, and it is imperative for all of us to stand against it,” Ablakwa stated. He expressed confidence in the turnout for the protest, believing it will send a strong message to the President regarding opposition to state capture practices.
