Accra Technical University Graduates Over 5,800 Students, Champions Innovation and Skill Development

Accra Technical University (ATU) marked a major milestone in its educational journey as it conferred degrees, diplomas, and certificates on 5,829 students during its 24th congregation ceremony. The event celebrated the accomplishments of graduates across various disciplines, including Engineering, Built Environment, Applied Sciences, Applied Arts, and Business. The graduating class included 1,672 Bachelor of Technology (BTech) recipients, 3,465 Higher National Diploma (HND) holders, 315 diploma earners, and 377 students from the Ghana Armed Forces training programme.
Held under the theme “Celebrating 75 Years of Impacting Society and Driving Innovation,” the ceremony reflected ATU’s longstanding commitment to delivering quality technical education tailored to national development.
The event attracted dignitaries such as Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ghana Armed Forces, CTVET, and traditional leaders, highlighting its significance in Ghana’s educational landscape.
Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, acting Vice-Chancellor of ATU, lauded the Class of 2024 for their resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and global economic uncertainties. He encouraged graduates to view their qualifications not just as academic achievements but as tools for societal transformation. “The true value of education lies in the positive change it brings to others,” he emphasized.
Dr. Emmanuel Newman, Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, also applauded the graduates, urging them to apply their technical skills to create employment opportunities rather than waiting for jobs. He called for a shift from rote learning to critical thinking and problem-solving, essential skills in today’s rapidly evolving job market.
Both speakers stressed the importance of lifelong learning and innovation, reinforcing ATU’s mission to shape professionals capable of addressing Ghana’s development needs. As the graduates step into the future, they are urged to embody the university’s values and become agents of positive change in society.
