Afua Asantewaa’s Singathon Record Denied Over Rule Breach
Afua Asantewaa’s Second ‘Singathon’ Guinness World Record Attempt Disqualified Over Rest Break Violations

Ghanaian singer and media personality Afua Asantewaa has disclosed that she has been formally disqualified from her second attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon. On Thursday, May 8, 2025, she made the announcement on social media, including the Guinness World Records (GWR) verdict and their thorough justification.
Afua praised the mental and physical effort she and her team put into the record attempt in her heartfelt message. Notwithstanding the result, she conveyed her sincere appreciation for the help, inspiration, and helpful criticism from both fans and well-wishers. “Being a part of the GWR process twice has brought me personal growth, resilience, and transformation,” she said, adding that it has been a difficult but worthwhile trip and an amazing experience.
The attempt was dismissed for not meeting important requirements for such a feat, according to Guinness’ official answer. In particular, their analysis showed that Afua took more rest than she was supposed to during two different break periods. The rules allow for a five-minute break for each hour of singing. She was only entitled to a five-minute break, but she took a fifteen-minute one at one point. In another case, she only received 10 minutes despite resting for 105 minutes. Her attempt was deemed invalid as a result of these infractions.
On December 21, 2024, Afua’s second singing marathon got underway at Kumasi’s Baba Yara Sports Stadium’s Heroes’ Park. She surpassed the current record of 105 hours, held by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, by singing for an astounding 121 hours and 39 minutes. Her performance is nonetheless evidence of her passion and tenacity in spite of the disqualification. Afua thanked her crew and supporters as she wrapped up her remarks with grace and hope, reaffirming that the voyage itself was more important than the title.
