The Law House project, which originally commenced in 2001, faced numerous delays and setbacks. Initially slated for completion in May 2004, the project was halted and only resumed in January 2023 under a renewed commitment. Today, this ambitious structure stands complete, equipped with advanced facilities that reflect its critical role in Ghana’s judicial infrastructure.

The new Law House boasts a range of modern amenities designed to support the effective administration of justice. These include:

130 Office Spaces: Accommodating various departments within the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General’s office.

Conference Rooms: State-of-the-art meeting spaces for legal discussions and strategic planning.

120 Parking Lots: Adequate parking to facilitate the daily operations of staff and visitors.

Eating Area: A designated space for staff and visitors to dine, promoting convenience and comfort.

During the commissioning ceremony, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame highlighted the government’s resolve to improve the working conditions of state attorneys nationwide. He pledged to ensure that all regional offices under his jurisdiction are housed in buildings of at least three storeys, moving away from the current practice of operating from temporary or shared facilities. This commitment signals a significant shift towards enhancing the operational efficiency and morale of legal practitioners across the country.

Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, also present at the event, underscored the importance of not just physical infrastructure but also the broader needs of the judicial system. She called for continued investment in legal education reforms and other critical projects to ensure robust justice delivery. Her remarks pointed to a holistic approach to justice system improvement, extending beyond buildings to include educational and operational enhancements.

President Akufo-Addo’s commissioning of the Law House represents a milestone in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to bolster its legal infrastructure. The modern facilities and strategic planning embodied in the new Law House are expected to significantly enhance the functionality and accessibility of the justice system in Ghana.

As the Law House opens its doors, it stands as a symbol of progress and a testament to the government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law. The building is poised to become a cornerstone of legal administration in Ghana, supporting the work of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice for years to come.
