American Rapper Sues Lyft for Weight Discrimination After Driver Declines Ride
American Rapper Files Lawsuit Against Lyft for Alleged Weight Discrimination

Rapper Dank DeMoss, whose real name is Dajua Blanding and who hails from Detroit, has filed a lawsuit against Lyft, claiming that the ride-hailing service discriminated against her because of her weight.
After a Lyft driver allegedly refused to give her a ride, claiming that her obesity was the reason, the complaint was filed. Blanding, who weighs 489 pounds, was upset over the incident and called it uncomfortable and humiliating.
After filming the exchange, she uploaded the video to TikTok, where it immediately became well-known. “I felt hurt and embarrassed. I have used similar cars multiple times without any issues. This driver singled me out purely because of my weight,” Blanding stated in an interview with CBS News.
Blanding’s legal team claims that the driver’s behaviour is against Michigan’s anti-discrimination rules, which specifically forbid weight-based discrimination. One of the few states in the US that still has laws protecting people from being discriminated against because of their weight in the workplace and in public places is Michigan.
Lyft released a written statement in response to the complaint, reaffirming its strong anti-discrimination position. The business reiterated that drivers are not allowed to engage in any kind of harassment or discriminatory behaviour under its terms of service or community rules.
“Lyft is committed to fostering an inclusive environment and does not tolerate any form of discrimination,” the statement .
This case brings attention to the persistent difficulties that people who are subjected to weight discrimination confront, particularly in the service and transportation sectors. For a long time, advocacy organisations have pushed for more inclusive laws to guarantee that individuals of different body sizes have equal access to services.
Social media users have been debating the topic, with many voicing support for Blanding and demanding that anti-discrimination laws be strictly enforced by ride-hailing businesses. Legal experts speculate that as the case develops, it may establish a standard for claims involving weight discrimination in public services in the future. The result could have an impact on regulatory modifications for Lyft as well as the larger ride-hailing sector.
