Bawumia: NHIS Functions More Effectively under Our Government Compared to Mahama’s Administration

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserts that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has seen improvements during the Akufo-Addo administration.

In an interview with Africa Watch Magazine, Dr. Bawumia commended the progress made in the health sector’s infrastructure under the current government. He highlighted the expansion of NHIS coverage to include treatments for childhood cancers and hydroxyurea for sickle-cell patients.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia mentioned the introduction of an NHIS app by the government, enabling Ghanaians to register and enroll using their Ghana card. He emphasized the digitization of the NHIS, linking it to the Ghana card, simplifying processes for citizens. Dr. Bawumia pledged to invest in expanding healthcare infrastructure, particularly in underserved rural areas, to ensure equitable access to quality services.

Furthermore, he promised targeted initiatives to address healthcare disparities among vulnerable populations. He also vowed to increase recruitment, training, and retention of healthcare professionals to improve service delivery.
