Beyoncé Won Album of the Year Award at the 2025 Grammy Awards with ‘Cowboy Carter’

At the 67th Grammy Awards, Beyoncé won the prestigious Album of the Year title for Cowboy Carter, marking a historic moment for Los Angeles. The world-renowned figure had previously been nominated for the category four times but had never won, thus this victory rectifies what many fans and critics felt was long overdue honor.
With 35 Grammy victories, Beyoncé is the most decorated artist in Grammy history, and this accolade represents a significant milestone in her storied career. When her name was called, Beyoncé embraced her husband, Jay-Z, and daughter, Blue Ivy, before stepping gracefully onto the platform wearing a gorgeous gold paisley outfit.
“I just feel very full and very honored,” Beyoncé expressed. “It’s been many, many years.” She dedicated the award to Linda Martell, a trailblazer for Black musicians in country music and the first Black woman to perform solo at the Grand Ole Opry. Martell’s voice echoes through Cowboy Carter, highlighting the Black roots of country music
Beyoncé’s success continued when her genre-bending album took home the Best Country Album title. Taylor Swift’s presentation of the award was a symbolic moment. Beyoncé, who rose to the top of country charts but had previously been ignored by the Country Music Association, accepted the distinction with grace and thanked her fellow country performers.
Lauryn Hill won Album of the Year in 1999 with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, but Beyoncé is now the first Black woman to do so.
The hip-hop categories were led by Kendrick Lamar, whose diss hit “Not Like Us” won five prizes, including Best Rap Song, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year. This is just the second hip-hop song to win Record of the Year, after Childish Gambino’s 2019 song “This Is America.”

Lamar dedicated his victories to the city of Los Angeles, which has been devastated by flames lately. During his speech, he called out different communities and declared, “We’re gonna dedicate this one to the city.”
The 2025 Grammys raised more over $7 million for relief efforts and also functioned as a fundraiser for wildfire victims. Taking photos with the biggest names in music, firefighters who heroically fought the fire were honored on the red carpet.
Several artists used their moment in the spotlight to address pressing social issues:
- Lady Gaga, upon winning Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Bruno Mars, affirmed LGBTQ+ rights: “Trans people deserve love, the queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love.”
- Chappell Roan, the Best New Artist winner, called for fair wages and healthcare for musicians, challenging record labels to better support their artists.
The Beatles won Best Rock Performance in a bizarre turn of events, 55 years after their breakup. Their posthumous hit, Now And Then, which was produced using AI-assisted vocals from John Lennon’s old demo, won them a Grammy decades after they last won, and a tribute to the late Quincy Jones, one of the greatest producers in music history, was also given. Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, and Cynthia Erivo performed, and Will Smith introduced the segment, his first televised award show appearance since the 2022 Oscars scandal.
Women ruled the night at the 2025 Grammys:
- Doechii became the third female rapper to win Best Rap Album, joining Lauryn Hill and Cardi B.
- Sabrina Carpenter took home two Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance (Espresso) and Best Pop Album (Short n’ Sweet).
- Charli XCX won three awards for her high-energy dance album Brat
