Ghanaian music star Black Sherif continues to make international waves, securing a coveted nomination at the 2025 BET Awards. The “Second Sermon” hitmaker is proudly representing Ghana in the Best International Act category, standing tall as the only Ghanaian nominee in this year’s prestigious lineup.

A wide variety of international artists, such as Ayra Starr and Rema from Nigeria, Tyla from South Africa, Uncle Waffles from Swaziland, Gabrielly and MC Luanna from Brazil, Joé Dwèt Filé and SDM from France, and UK acts Basky and Ezra Collective, will compete against Black Sherif.

This is just another significant event in Black Sherif’s rapidly advancing career. He became the second Ghanaian to win Best International Flow at the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2023, following Sarkodie’s triumph in 2019. Black Sherif has gained international recognition as a voice of the youth due to his realistic storytelling, genre-bending sound, and intensely emotive lyrics. His music breaks down barriers and enthralls audiences around the world by skillfully fusing drill, highlife, and trap.

Black Entertainment Television (BET) created the BET Awards in 2001 to honor the exceptional accomplishments of Black people in sports, music, movies, and philanthropy. The platform has grown over time to include artists from all across the world, but especially from Africa. Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Sarkodie, and now Black Sherif are among the artists who have gained international recognition thanks to the 2010 introduction of categories like Best International Act: Africa.

The nomination of Black Sherif is a source of pride for Ghana as well as a personal accomplishment. As the country’s lone nominee, all eyes will be on him as the awards near.
