Black Stars Depart for World Cup Qualifier in Bamako

The Black Stars of Ghana are scheduled to fly out of Accra today to Bamako, Mali, in preparation for their important 2026 World Cup qualifier against the Eagles of Mali on Thursday.

Coach Otto Addo has selected a 26-man squad for the mission, which includes debutants Ibrahim Sulemana from Cagliari in Italy’s Serie A and Brandon Thomas-Asante from West Bromwich Albion in England’s Championship.

The squad also includes Asante Kotoko’s goalkeeper Fredrick Asare, the sole local player, who will compete for the starting position with Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Wollacott.

Ghana is currently fourth in Group I with three points. Comoros leads the group with six points, followed by Mali with four points. Madagascar is tied with Ghana at three points, while the Central African Republic (CAR) and Chad are at the bottom with one point and zero points, respectively.

The arrival of key players like Osman Bukari and Alexander Djiku has bolstered the squad’s preparations, as the team looks to secure maximum points in these upcoming fixtures.
