Following their exhilarating win against the Central African Republic in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars, along with their technical team, made a significant visit to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on June 11.
This visit highlighted their role as ambassadors for the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKAP), a major initiative aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s only tertiary healthcare facility in the middle belt.
Initiated by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the HeKAP is a transformative $10 million project. It seeks to modernize and refurbish the original blocks of KATH, as part of the Asantehene’s legacy projects marking his 25th anniversary. The project’s scope includes upgrading hospital wards, modernizing medical equipment, and enhancing the overall hospital environment to better serve patients and staff.
During their visit, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, CEO of KATH, provided a poignant history of the hospital. Serving as a critical healthcare provider for over 70 years, the hospital’s infrastructure has become outdated, hindering the quality of care.
