Brazilian Couple Sets World Record with 84 Years of Marriage, Blessed with Over 100 Grandchildren

Manoel and Maria Dino, a Brazilian couple, have broken the record for the longest marriage in history, which is a heartwarming example of love and dedication. The pair commemorated an incredible 84 years of marriage at ages 105 and 101, respectively. Together, they have also been blessed with a big family of over 100 grandchildren, confirming their legacy. In 1940, when the world was very different, they exchanged vows at the chapel of Boa Ventura in Ceará, Brazil, marking the beginning of their incredible love journey.

Long before they were married, Manoel and Maria started their adventure together. Manoel visited Boa Viagem’s Almeida neighborhood in 1936 to pick up a consignment of rapaduras, a well-liked Brazilian confection. Although the couple’s romance did not take off right away, they first met here. Their relationship was rekindled by a fortuitous meeting in 1940, and shortly after, Manoel proclaimed his love for Maria, whom he believed to be his soulmate. After giving it some thought, Maria agreed, and the couple’s everlasting commitment was established.

Even though they had obstacles along the way, such as Maria’s mother’s initial resistance, who doubted their union, Manoel’s perseverance won the family over. After raising 13 children together, they added 55 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren to their family tree.

Manoel, now frail, rests during the day but joins Maria in the evenings to listen to the rosary on the radio and watch televised mass.
