Ghana MPs’ Vetting Chaos: Tables Smashed, Mics Destroyed in Fury
Chaos Erupts at Ghana’s Appointments Committee Vetting as MPs Destroy Tables and Microphones

Tensions Rise Over Ablakwa and Akandoh’s Vetting Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Majority and Minority caucuses fought over Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s background checks, sending a Ghanaian Appointments Committee meeting into disarray.
The Minority expressed reservations about the day’s activities and suggested moving the vetting to Friday, which sparked the commotion. The Majority, however, fiercely opposed this idea, insisting that the vetting process go ahead as scheduled.
Disagreement swiftly became heated as emotions grew, culminating in a dramatic incident where a few Minority MPs broke microphones and tables to try to stop the vetting process. As the tension in the conference room increased, security guards had to intervene.

The Majority MPs persisted in their resolve in the face of the disturbances, claiming that the committee was proceeding according to its prearranged agenda and that all required screening should be completed right away. However, the Minority insisted that no more applicants be evaluated, arguing that an agreement had been reached to screen just four nominees for the day.
Since neither side was prepared to make concessions, the contentious dispute put a halt to the committee’s work. The altercation highlights the stark political differences within Parliament, casting doubt on Ghana’s legislative processes’ ability to function.
