As Ghana’s new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno has formally took the oath of office and pledged to uphold the principles of honesty, responsibility, and proactive policing.

Mr. Yohuno stressed during his swearing-in ceremony in Accra that his position was a serious duty demanding attention to detail and a commitment to public safety, in addition to being a professional milestone. His appointment is evidence of his years of dedication and excellence in law enforcement, since he has been with the Ghana Police Service since 1985.

“This role goes beyond holding a title; it is a duty to safeguard the people of Ghana with diligence and unwavering commitment. It reflects decades of hard work and dedication to the values of the service,” Yohuno remarked.

As the newly appointed IGP, Yohuno pledged to support the ongoing transformation of the Ghana Police Service, aligning with President John Mahama’s agenda to modernize and improve security operations. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding discipline, professionalism, and respect for hierarchy within the service.

“In line with the modernization and transformation agenda, I vow to uphold the traditions and values of the Ghana Police Service, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and a renewed approach to policing,” he stated.

Fostering greater community involvement and adopting a partnership-based approach to policing are important components of Yohuno’s leadership philosophy. He emphasized how crucial it is for citizens and law enforcement to work together to avoid crime and improve security.

“Policing is a shared responsibility. Community engagement and collaborative efforts between security agencies and citizens will be instrumental in preventing crime and ensuring safer neighborhoods,” Yohuno added.

President John Mahama urged personnel to support their new IGP in order to promote constructive change within the police, expressing faith in Yohuno’s leadership. Yohuno’s dedication to reform and transparency is all the more important given that his appointment comes at a pivotal moment when security issues are at the forefront of public discourse.
