CLOGSAG Set to Begin Nationwide Strike on November 4 Over Salary Structure Delays
The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG)

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced plans to embark on a nationwide strike starting Monday, November 4, 2024. The strike is in response to the prolonged delay in finalizing a salary structure for employees within the Civil Service and Local Government Service.

CLOGSAG had previously threatened a similar strike action in June 2024, issuing a notice on June 21, 2024, indicating that its members would begin the strike in July. However, the strike was called off after the government engaged with CLOGSAG and issued a communiqué, promising to resolve the salary structure issue by October 31, 2024. The government had assured the association that a finalized salary structure would be implemented by January 1, 2025.

Since then, multiple meetings have been held between CLOGSAG and government officials, but no concrete offer has been made regarding the new salary structure. The association has expressed frustration over the government’s inability to meet the promised deadline for completing the structure, despite ongoing discussions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, CLOGSAG made it clear that it had no choice but to initiate the strike after the October 31 deadline was missed. The association stressed that their members would begin the strike on November 4, 2024, if the government fails to deliver on its promise.

This impending strike could disrupt services across the country, as it involves staff from both the Civil Service and Local Government Service. CLOGSAG’s leadership is urging the government to take immediate action to avoid further escalation of the issue.
