Coach Addo’s Uplifting Visit to Mumin in Spain
Morale Booster: Coach Addo Visits Mumin in Spain

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has paid a morale-boosting visit to Abdul Mumin in Spain as the Black Stars defender continues his recovery from a thigh injury he sustained in March. Mumin, 26, limped off during Rayo Vallecano’s 1-1 draw with Sevilla on 31 March and has not featured in La Liga since.
Abdul Mumin is a Ghanaian professional who plays for Rayo Vallecano in La Liga as a center-back defender. He got injured defending in the Rayo Vallecano vs Sevilla game in March 2025. He felt something in his left knee and fell but was able to walk off the field on his own.
However, after trying to continue playing, he realized he couldn't and asked to be substituted after just 35 minutes. The exact nature of his injury was still unknown at the time, as he was waiting for further tests. The outcome of those tests confirmed that Abdul Mumin suffered a serious knee injury, ruling him out for the rest of the 2024/2025 La Liga season.
As such, he won’t be playing again until next season, a massive blow for Rayo Vallecano and the Ghana national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Abdul Mumin’s injury news doesn’t sound good for Ghana and Rayo Vallecano supporters either.
He has 9 matches with 810 minutes in La Liga. He has 1 goal and has 1 assist to his credit. He has 24 matches in total this season. With the Black Stars set to gather in London this month for a four-nation friendly match involving Trinidad & Togo, Nigeria, and Jamaica, the technical team is monitoring the recovery of the center-back closely in the hope of getting the good news of a quick recovery.
The Black Stars play on 28th May and 31st June 2025 in the competition, which will be played in the UK. Mumin, who has nine senior caps, was pleased with the visit from the coach and informed the Ghana manager of his recovery. The defender will also be out of the upcoming competition in the UK, a warm-up for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September, in addition to the already missed Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers against CHAD and Madagascar.
Ghana’s chances in the World Cup qualifiers for 2026 are looking excellent. Ghana is at the top of Group I with 15 points, with Madagascar second on 10 points and Mali third on 9 points. To automatically qualify, however, Ghana needs to obtain at least 7 more points from their last 4 matches. Even former Black Stars defender Isaac Vorsah went on to say that Ghana is already qualified for the FIFA 2026 World Cup. Ghana coach Otto Addo also expressed confidence in Ghana’s possibility of qualifying if they maintain the same form.
Ghana Black Stars coach Otto Addo has been praised as a tactical genius after adopting seven major concepts, which have played a huge role in the team’s success in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Ghana is leading Group I, and football enthusiasts as well as pundits are taking notice of Addo’s relentless tactics. Otto Addo merges the following seven tactics which have secured Ghana’s win:
1.Addo’s preferred formation is the versatile 4-2-3-1 because it enables quick changes from defense to attack, which takes opponents by surprise. The three attacking midfielders give support to the single striker upfront, while the two holding midfielders offer solidity.
2.Addo provides width and speed to Ghana’s play by pushing wing-backs like Andy Yiadom and Baba Rahman to aid attacks.
3. Thomas Partey, Iddrisu Baba, and Elisha Owusu are midfielders who dictate the pace of the game and control the middle of the park as part of Addo’s midfield triple dominance strategy.
4. Another strategy is quick counterattacks using fast breaks by strikers like Inaki Williams and Kamaldeen Sulemana to take opponents by surprise.
5. Clean sheets would need defensive solidity, and that would be provided by the midfield trio shielding a solid back four.
6. To maintain the freshness of the squad in matches and the competition, Addo rotates players consistently.
7. Finally, he focuses on his set-piece abilities, creating dangerous corners and free kicks to catch opponents off guard.
With these amazing strategies, and the possible return of Abdul Mumin, it is hoped that Ghana qualifies for the next FIFA 2026 World Cup competition.
