Declare Assets or Lose Pay – Mahama’s Bold Ultimatum
Declare Assets or Forfeit Pay: President Mahama Issues Stern Warning to Government Appointees

To guarantee accountability and openness within his administration, President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strict mandate. The penalties, which include the loss of three months’ income, will be imposed on any government officials who did not disclose their assets by the original deadline of March 31, 2025. The president’s intensified efforts to enforce moral principles in public service include this policy.
The newly created Maham.aCares Medical Fund, a public health initiative started by President Mahama just last week to complement the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, is to receive these forfeited salary. The president underlined that public personnel must exhibit integrity by abiding by constitutional standards and that accountability is not optional.
President Mahama has extended the deadline to Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in order to give defaulters one last chance to file their asset reports, despite the consequences. He did clarify, though, that any appointee who does not fulfill this new deadline should be immediately removed from their job.
All those nominated or appointed prior to March 31, 2025, are subject to this policy. On May 5, 2025, the order was released in conjunction with the introduction of a new code of conduct for government appointees that aims to strengthen moral behavior by outlawing accepting gifts and abusing public funds.
Out of the four-month pay penalty for defaulters, President Mahama revealed that one month will be regarded as a required donation to the MahamaCares Medical Fund, with the other three months being punishment for missing the initial deadline.
In accordance with Article 286 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, which mandates that public officeholders disclose their assets and liabilities at the beginning and end of their terms, he reiterated that he had already completed his own asset declaration obligations.
President Mahama’s position makes it very evident that his administration’s agenda is centered on ethical governance and that appointees must support this commitment or suffer swift repercussions.
