EC Aims to Register 70,000 New Voters in Upcoming Mop-Up Exercise

The Electoral Commission (EC) is targeting the registration of 50,000 to 70,000 new voters in its mop-up voter registration exercise, set for August 1-3, 2024.
This initiative aims to include those who turned 18 after the recent limited voter registration and individuals who missed the previous registration.
During a news conference in Accra, Deputy Chairman of Operations, Mr. Samuel Tettey, announced that the registration would occur at 268 District Offices, 26 Public Universities, and 41 Prison Centres nationwide. Registration will run from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily and will be conducted exclusively online, with support from MTN to ensure stable internet connectivity.
The EC previously conducted a Limited Voter Registration Exercise from May 7-29, 2024, enrolling 778,447 voters, including 408,332 females (52.45%) and 370,115 males (47.55%). The current provisional voter list stands at 18,681,366.

Mr. Tettey emphasized the importance of an inclusive Voters Register for the 2024 General Election. Eligible applicants must present a Ghana Card or Ghana Passport; otherwise, two registered voters must act as guarantors. Registered voters can only guarantee for ten individuals.
Political parties can send agents to observe the process, and the Ghana Police Service will provide security to ensure a peaceful environment. Mr. Tettey urged all participants to conduct themselves appropriately and advised parents to prevent underage children from registering.
The EC has scheduled August 20-27, 2024, for the exhibition of the Voters Register at all polling stations. All registered voters are encouraged to verify their registration details during this period.
