EC Guidelines on Accessing Nomination Forms for Independent Presidential Candidates

Starting Friday, August 2, 2024, candidates interested in the upcoming presidential election can download nomination forms from the Electoral Commission (EC) website and begin filling them out for filing.
However, independent presidential aspirants must first submit a Letter of Introduction addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission to obtain passwords at the EC’s Head Office, enabling them to download the nomination forms.
The EC has outlined that, per the law, candidates for the presidential election must be nominated on the official EC Nomination Forms. These forms must be signed by the candidates and at least two registered voters from each District Assembly in Ghana.
In a press release on Thursday, August 1, the EC stated that nominations would open in accordance with Regulations 6, 7, and 9 of the 2020 Public Elections Regulations (C.I 127). Nomination forms will be available for download from August 2, and the EC will accept completed forms from Monday, September 9, to Friday, September 13, 2024.
The filing fee for presidential candidates is GH¢100,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢75,000 for female candidates and persons with disabilities. Parliamentary candidates must pay a filing fee of GH¢10,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢7,500 for female candidates and persons with disabilities. Payments should be made by Banker’s draft, addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
