The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared a notable milestone in its procurement process, leading to significant cost reductions in election expenses. As per the commission’s report, the cost per voter decreased from $13 in 2016 to $7 in 2020, resulting in a substantial national saving of $19 million. In a press release on May 6, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa emphasized the commission’s commitment to improving efficiency and transparency in recent years.Since 2020, the EC has adopted an open competitive bidding process for its procurements, with about 95% of these procurements advertised in local newspapers.
Jean Mensa noted that this approach has ensured value for money in services and materials, while also fostering significant competition, leading to a substantial reduction in procurement costs.
