The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the filing fees for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections will remain unchanged from those imposed during the 2020 polls. Presidential candidates will be required to pay GH¢100,000, while parliamentary candidates will pay GH¢10,000.

The decision comes after the EC faced criticism during the 2020 elections for doubling the filing fee for presidential candidates from GH¢50,000 to GH¢100,000. Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, a Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission, defended the increase, citing currency value alignment.

In a joint statement issued after the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Thursday, March 7, 2024, the EC confirmed the fees would remain the same. The statement, signed by Michael Boadu, Acting Head of Public Affairs, praised political party leaders for their input into the 2024 Election Plan and indicated the EC’s readiness to implement several suggestions.

Additionally, the EC announced the retention of indelible ink for voter marking during the elections and disclosed that the Limited Voter Registration Exercise would span 21 days, running from Tuesday, May 7th to Monday, May 27th, 2024. The exercise will be conducted at Electoral Commission District Offices and in hard-to-reach Electoral Areas.
