The Ghanaian Ministry of Education has committed to distributing free tablets to all Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country by October 2024.

Speaking at the International Educators Summit 2024, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum emphasized the government’s focus on integrating technology into education, assuring that every SHS student would receive their tablets within the next few months.

This initiative is part of the broader Ghana Smart Schools Project, unveiled by President Akufo-Addo in March 2024, which aims to provide approximately 1.3 million SHS students with smart tablets.

The project underscores the government’s dedication to equipping students with essential technological skills under the free SHS policy. By May 2024, the Ministry had already distributed around 70,000 tablets to 30 schools, with plans to extend this to all 450,000 schools set to benefit from the program. This significant effort is expected to transform educational experiences and prepare students for a future increasingly shaped by technology.
