Ejuratia Residents Grieve Akua Donkor; Daughter Urges State Burial for Her Mother

The community of Ejuratia, located in the Afigya Kwabre South District of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, is mourning the loss of Akua Donkor, the esteemed leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and a former presidential candidate.

Following the announcement of her passing, residents have been visiting the family home to express their condolences and reflect on the positive impact she had on the community during her tenure as an Assembly Member.

Among those calling for a state burial is Donkor’s daughter, Ama Serwaa Bonsu, who highlights her mother’s significant contributions to community development and empowerment, particularly for the youth and young girls. Bonsu emphasized her mother’s pivotal role in transforming the lives of many individuals across various communities in Ghana.

“My mother was instrumental in various developmental initiatives. Thanks to her, we now have an asphalt road in Ejuratia,” Bonsu stated. She noted that Donkor generously donated 25 acres of family land for this road’s construction. Furthermore, Donkor was responsible for building a bus station and refurbishing local educational institutions in Ejuratia.

In addition to her contributions in Ejuratia, Donkor made significant strides in other areas. She facilitated access to water and electricity in Abrade, constructed a school, and established a market and toilet facilities at the police station in Hemang. Her efforts also extended to the Mamponteng court, where she provided seating for attendees.

Bonsu is advocating for the state to honor her mother’s legacy by granting her a state burial, stating, “She accomplished so much for our communities, and I believe this recognition is fitting for her lifelong service.” The residents of Ejuratia stand united in their call for acknowledgment of Donkor’s invaluable contributions to their lives and society at large.
