The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has firmly rejected allegations of collusion with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to manipulate the upcoming December 7 general elections. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had accused the EC of collaborating with the NPP to influence election results in the Ashanti Region, a key electoral stronghold.
Speaking at a security symposium held at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, Head of Training at the EC, dismissed these accusations as baseless. He underscored the robustness of Ghana’s electoral system, which he described as transparent and designed to ensure the integrity of election outcomes.
Dr. Quaicoe explained that rigging an election in Ghana would require the complicity of multiple stakeholders, making it practically impossible. “Rigging an election in Ghana is simply not feasible. For it to happen, the Electoral Commission, party agents, and all other stakeholders would have to be compromised, which is extremely unlikely,” he said.
He further clarified that while irregularities or isolated fraudulent activities may occur, they do not equate to systematic rigging. He urged stakeholders to trust the process and emphasized that the EC is committed to conducting free and fair elections.
This statement seeks to reassure Ghanaians amid growing political tensions, reaffirming the EC’s stance as an impartial institution dedicated to upholding democratic principles.
