Ex-Finance Minister Ofori-Atta Sues Police Over Home Raid
Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former Minister of Finance, has taken legal action against two senior police officers, DSP Bismark Boakye Ansah and Chief Inspector Mensah, also known as Sir Mensah, accusing them of unlawful entry and violating his privacy.

The case relates to an alleged February 11, 2025, raid on Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments home by a number of people, including uniformed military and law enforcement officers. The former minister was abroad when the raid occurred, but his wife and other relatives were there.
Security footage and eyewitness accounts indicate that about 12 people participated in the operation. Five of them wore military uniforms, one wore a police outfit, and the others wore civilian clothes. It’s still unclear why the raid occurred and if any items were removed from the property.
Initially, rumors developed that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had sanctioned the operation. However, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, at a news briefing on February 12, denied any involvement, explaining that his office neither authorized nor performed the raid.
Ofori-Atta is requesting a number of legal remedies, including a court ruling that the officers’ activities were illegal and an invasion of his privacy, according to a court document that Citi News examined on March 12. He is also asking for trespassing compensation, a permanent order to stop future infringements on his property rights, aggravated damages, and legal fees.
Chief Inspector Mensah and DSP Bismark Boakye Ansah, the defendants, have been given eight days from the date of the summons to reply to the action.
Concerns over the behavior of law enforcement officers and the defense of individual rights in Ghana are becoming more and more prevalent as a result of this judicial dispute.
