The Gender-Based Violence Court at the Police Headquarters in Accra has sentenced 23-year-old fisherman Joseph Armah, also known as Asaa, to eight years in prison.

Based on his own plea, Armah was convicted of a crime involving a four-year-old girl in Chorkor. Judge Dora Eshun ruled over the case, which involved accusations of inappropriate behaviour with a juvenile against Armah.

The complainant, a boxer who lives in Lantemaamli-Chorkor, is the victim’s uncle, according to the prosecution, which is headed by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei. Armah lived in the same neighbourhood. Around 3:00 PM on November 29, 2024, Armah came across the young girl playing nearby. She accepted his offer to purchase a biscuit with a GHC1 coin.

Armah allegedly lured her into his room by the sea, where the offence took place, after she had bought and eaten the snack. After the event, the victim went home, and Armah went to Apam. She revealed the incident after her mother questioned her after observing a shift in her behaviour. After then, the mother got in touch with the complaint, who quickly informed the Mamprobi police about the situation.

A medical examination was authorized to ensure the child’s well-being, and subsequent investigations led to Armah’s arrest. A caution statement was taken, after which he was charged and prosecuted.

Upon pleading guilty, Armah was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment. The ruling aims to reinforce legal measures protecting minors and deterring similar offenses in the community.
