Roberto Firmino, former Liverpool striker, has taken on a new and profound role in his life, being ordained as an evangelical pastor.
This significant milestone comes three years after he co-founded the Manah Church in his hometown of Maceio, Brazil.
Firmino, along with his wife Larissa Pereira and pastors Jairo Fernandes and Keila Medeiros, established the church in 2020.
The ordination ceremony, held on Sunday, June 30, was a deeply moving event for Firmino and his family. In an Instagram post, Firmino shared photos of the ceremony, describing the event as “memorable and unforgettable.”

“What a memorable and unforgettable night. This church was BORN in the heart of God and we are extremely grateful for the privilege of witnessing up close all that the Lord has done,” Firmino wrote. He expressed a burning desire to share the love that he and his family have experienced through their faith.
“Since our encounter with Christ, a longing burns in our hearts… Let people know this love that has reached us. Now we have another craving and responsibility… Be Pastors after God’s heart and who cooperate with the Kingdom,” he added.
Firmino’s spiritual journey began in earnest in 2020 when he was baptized in the swimming pool of his former teammate Alisson Becker. This baptism marked the beginning of a deeper commitment to his faith, which has now culminated in his ordination as a pastor.
Despite this new pastoral role, Firmino has not retired from professional football. He currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, where he has two years remaining on his contract. Firmino spent eight years at Liverpool, where he was instrumental in helping the team secure multiple trophies, including the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Firmino’s transformation from a celebrated footballer to a dedicated pastor is a testament to his deep commitment to his faith and his community. His dual role as a professional athlete and a spiritual leader continues to inspire many around the world.
