Francis Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, Ghana, has earned international acclaim by receiving the prestigious U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Voluntary Service.

This honor, supported by the White House and presented by the Jacob-Abbey Global Institute for Leadership Studies (JAGILS), celebrates Sosu’s exceptional contributions to human rights and his dedication to global advocacy.

The award was presented earlier this year during Juneteenth celebrations in the United States, highlighting Sosu’s dedication to advancing justice and social reform. The ceremony, held in the U.S., saw leaders from around the world gather to honor Sosu and other distinguished figures, including Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K Bagbin, underscoring Ghana’s emerging influence in global leadership.

Sosu has made significant strides in human rights, pushing legislative reforms that have had a lasting impact in Ghana. Notable achievements include his efforts to abolish the death penalty and criminalize witchcraft accusations—landmark reforms that have bolstered protections for Ghana’s most vulnerable communities.

Accompanied by his wife, Felicia Adwoa Konadu Sosu, and their four children, Sosu was joined by other prominent figures such as Madam Vida, Director of Welfare at Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Dr. Prince Agyemang, Washington D.C. Chairman of the NDC. Their presence underscored the momentous nature of Sosu’s achievement and Ghana’s influence in global human rights advocacy.

Earlier this year, Sosu was also celebrated as Africa’s Most Outstanding MP for Human Rights Advocacy and named Ghana’s Political Personality of 2024. His journey, from a disadvantaged upbringing to becoming a lawyer and legislator, serves as a testament to resilience and a commitment to uplift others.

Sosu’s influence has transcended borders, inspiring audiences in the United States and beyond. His engagements have included appearances at the United Nations in New York, on Tennessee’s Fox 13 TV, and visits to schools in Oklahoma, where he shared his powerful story of perseverance and dedication to social justice.

JAGILS praised Sosu’s impact in a congratulatory statement, noting, “Hon. Sosu’s influence is felt far beyond Ghana… we look forward to celebrating his achievements alongside our other honorees.” The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for Voluntary Service not only honors Sosu’s contributions but also serves as a milestone for Ghana, highlighting the nation’s commitment to human rights and progressive governance.
