Dr. Apaak assures that the Free SHS program will continue to prosper and flourish under John Mahama’s leadership.

Dr. Clement Apaak, the Deputy Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament, has expressed confidence that the free Senior High School (SHS) program will continue to succeed and flourish under John Dramani Mahama’s presidency. Dr. Apaak emphasized that under John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, the free SHS program will thrive through collaborative efforts with stakeholders to address its challenges.

Dismissing claims that Mahama would abolish free SHS, Dr. Apaak questioned why Mahama would engage with SHS heads to resolve implementation issues if he intended to cancel it. He highlighted a successful meeting between Mahama and the leadership of CHASS on April 8, 2024, where they discussed strategies to improve teaching and learning in SHSs.

Dr. Apaak challenged Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to clarify whether the current government, of which he is a part, informed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about plans to review and rationalize the Free SHS program.

Dr. Apaak additionally challenged the Vice-President to acknowledge that Mr. Mahama was correct in advocating for a review of the Free SHS program, as Dr. Bawumia admitted to the IMF, as documented on page 76, paragraph 47 of the first review of the IMF program.
