GES Introduces Optional Easter Break for SHS 2 Transitional Track Students

For Form 2 pupils currently enrolled in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools that use the Transitional Track system, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has formally announced an optional Easter holiday. Families and students will have more flexibility during the Easter celebrations thanks to this decision. On behalf of the Acting Director-General of GES, Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of Schools and Instructions Division, issued a directive on April 11, 2025, stating that the Easter vacation will run from Thursday, April 17, to Monday, April 21, 2025. The statement makes it clear that students are under no obligation to take the break and that it is completely voluntary.
“Students who wish to travel home and celebrate the Easter festivities with their families should be given the opportunity to do so,” the statement emphasized. However, the directive also made provisions for students who prefer to remain on campus during the holiday. These students will continue to stay in school under adequate supervision to ensure their safety and well-being.
To guarantee the continuous continuation of academic activities, students who travel are expected to return to school on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in accordance with the GES regulation. This early return will avoid any delays in curriculum covering and assist keep the academic calendar moving smoothly. For a seamless implementation across the nation, regional directors of education have been entrusted with informing all impacted school heads of this information. The announcement demonstrates GES’s dedication to upholding academic integrity while promoting the wellbeing of students.
