GES Warns Schools: Stop Illegal BECE Fees or Face Action!
GES Issues a Strong Warning Regarding Illicit BECE Registration Fees

School administrators are being strongly cautioned by the Ghana Education Service (GES) not to collect registration fees for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) without authorization. This announcement comes after social media posts claimed that certain school officials were charging final-year students with prohibited fees.
GES management stressed that such fees are unlawful and directed all basic school heads to stop the practice right once in an official statement issued on February 12, 2025. The group stressed that any illegal charges are a clear breach of educational policies and that BECE registration costs are tightly supervised.
In order to resolve the matter, GES has directed Regional Directors to notify District Directors, who will oversee and guarantee adherence in educational institutions. All leaders of institutions found to have violated these fees must also swiftly return the money that was collected. Discipline, including potential consequences, will be applied to those who disregard the directive.
The GES underlined its dedication to ensuring that financial constraints do not impede academic advancement and to making education equitable and accessible for all students. In order to ensure prompt action, the statement further asked parents and students to report any instances of unauthorized fee collecting to the relevant authorities.
