Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has announced the imminent disbursement of GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to settle outstanding allowances owed to nursing trainees nationwide. This announcement brings relief to many nursing trainees who have been waiting for months for their allowances.

The nursing trainee allowance, which had previously been abolished, was reinstated by the Akufo-Addo administration. Despite its reintroduction, delays in payment had caused significant financial strain for many trainees.

Speaking at a meeting with nurses and midwives in Accra, Dr. Bawumia provided assurance that the long-awaited funds would be released promptly. “This Thursday, the Controller is transferring GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the nursing training allowances,” he declared.

He also emphasized the need for swift action once the funds are transferred. “I have alerted Dr. Okoe-Boye to be on standby. When the money hits the Ministry of Health account, they should move it quickly to the accounts of the nursing trainees so that they will have their alawa. It will drop.”

The announcement has been welcomed by nursing trainees, who have faced months of financial uncertainty. The disbursement of these funds will not only alleviate their immediate financial burdens but also reaffirm the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare professionals in training.
