The Ghanaian government has unveiled major financial allocations in its 2025 budget, aiming to boost economic growth, support infrastructure development, and provide relief for disaster victims.

$279M Allocated to GOLDBOD to Strengthen Gold Exports

During his budget presentation in Parliament, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced that the government has designated a Cedi equivalent of $279 million as a revolving fund for the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD). This fund will enable GOLDBOD to purchase and export at least three tonnes of gold per week from small-scale miners. This initiative is expected to enhance Ghana’s gold production and strengthen its position in the global gold market.

GH₵13.85Bn Earmarked for Big Push Infrastructure Project

As part of efforts to drive national development, the government has set aside GH₵13.85 billion for the Big Push Programme. This ambitious infrastructure initiative focuses on upgrading transportation networks, energy facilities, and social infrastructure to accelerate economic growth and improve living conditions nationwide.

Education Sector Benefits from GH₵499.8M ‘No-Fees-Stress’ Policy

In a bid to promote higher education accessibility, GH₵499.8 million has been allocated to the ‘No-Fees-Stress’ initiative. This policy eliminates academic fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions, reducing the financial burden on students and their families.

Free Sanitary Pads Initiative Receives GH₵292.4M

Recognizing the importance of menstrual hygiene in education, the government has allocated GH₵292.4 million to provide free sanitary pads for female students in primary and secondary schools. This measure aims to improve school attendance and overall well-being among young girls.

GH₵242.5M Relief Fund for Akosombo Dam Spillage Victims

In response to recent natural disasters, the government has dedicated GH₵242.5 million to support victims affected by the Akosombo dam spillage. Additionally, GH₵200 million has been allocated to assist those impacted by tidal waves in Agavedzi and neighboring communities in the Ketu South constituency.

These budgetary allocations underscore the government’s commitment to economic development, disaster relief, and social welfare, reinforcing its dedication to improving the lives of Ghanaians.
