Ghana Police Launch GH¢20K Informant System to Bolster Election Security

The National Election Security Taskforce has unveiled a financial incentive system aimed at strengthening public participation in maintaining security ahead of the December elections. This initiative encourages individuals to report security threats and other election-related risks, with informants receiving rewards ranging from GH¢1,000 to GH¢20,000.
The toll-free hotline, 0800-311-311, has been activated as the primary channel for submitting information anonymously.
Announcing the initiative on November 27, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police and head of the task force, explained its purpose during a meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). Dr. Dampare stressed that the program is part of a broader strategy to ensure peaceful and secure elections through public collaboration.
He stated, “This reward system is a practical step to involve the public in safeguarding the electoral process. When you provide information that yields actionable results, the reward will be determined based on its value, and the payout will be processed discreetly as per your preference.”
The move has been welcomed as a proactive measure to address potential threats, ensuring that the election environment remains safe and free from disruptions. By encouraging citizens to act as watchdogs, the Ghana Police Service aims to build a robust security framework for the polls.
