Ghana Schools Grant Muslim Students Eid-ul-Fitr Break
Ghana Education Service Grants Muslim Students Break for Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations

All senior high schools in Ghana have been formally instructed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide Muslim pupils a holiday from Friday, March 28, 2025, to Tuesday, April 1, 2025, so they can spend Eid-ul-Fitr with their family. In celebration of the Islamic holiday, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak announced Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays. This decision comes after his declaration. On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Eid-ul-Fitr, the celebration of the conclusion of Ramadan, is anticipated.
All Regional Directors must make sure that school heads carry out the direction appropriately, per a formal declaration signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi, the Acting Deputy Director-General (MS) for the Director-General of GES. The message stressed that following the festivities, Muslim students must return to their respective schools by Tuesday, April 1, 2025. The government’s dedication to maintaining religious tolerance and acknowledging the cultural and spiritual needs of the Muslim population is in line with the strategy. This action is anticipated to alleviate the difficulties Muslim parents and students have faced in juggling their religious and academic duties throughout the years.
This decision is expected to foster unity, religious tolerance, and inclusivity within Ghana’s educational system. It also reinforces the importance of recognizing and respecting the diverse religious beliefs in the country.
