Ghanaian Students in Hungary Beg Govt for Unpaid Stipends
Ghanaian Students in Hungary Appeal to Government Over 11-Month Stipend Arrears

Ghanaian students in Hungary who are enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees have expressed public disapproval over the nonpayment of their allowances for the previous eleven months. Due to the government’s protracted delay in disbursing stipends and book allowances accrued over two academic years, the impacted students claim they are experiencing extreme hardship.
In a statement released Monday, April 21, the students said that their circumstances were getting worse and worse, with many of them finding it difficult to pay for necessities like food, housing, transportation, and school supplies. They stressed that their overall well-being, mental health, and academic advancement are all seriously threatened by the ongoing financial neglect.
“After multiple attempts to engage the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, we have received no concrete feedback or solutions,” the statement said. “This chronic delay has plunged many of us into financial and emotional distress, making it nearly impossible to focus on our studies or plan for the future.”
The students are calling on the Ghanaian government to take immediate action, emphasizing that officials’ inaction only makes their situation worse. They claim that the Secretariat has not responded to student leaders’ requests for immediate action.
“We implore the government and all relevant stakeholders to treat this as a matter of national importance,” the statement continued. “Our academic futures and personal dignity are at stake, and immediate intervention is needed to prevent a full-blown crisis.”
The impacted students hope that their appeal will bring the long-standing stipend delay to the attention of the highest levels of government and lead to swift action as they continue to deal with the increasing pressure of living abroad.
