Fuel Prices in Ghana Surge for Third Time in 2025

For the third time in a row this year, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have raised fuel prices, and the latest hike, which goes into effect in the first pricing window of February, is a result of fluctuating global crude oil prices and the ongoing depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi.
-Shell Ghanahas raised the price of petrol from GH₵15.59 per litre in late January to GH₵16.23, while diesel has increased from GH₵15.79 per litre to GH₵16.20
Star Oil, in contrast, has kept petrol prices unchanged at GH₵14.99 per litre but increased diesel prices from GH₵14.99 to GH₵15.37per litre.
The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) had earlier predicted a slight increase in fuel prices, pointing to the volatility of the world’s crude prices and the Cedi’s weakening value as the main causes. Due to supply shortages and geopolitical unrest, the price of oil has been rising on the global market, which has made matters worse for local customers.
The government’s guarantee of stable fuel prices Edudzi Tameklo, Acting CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reassured Ghanaians that strategic measures are being implemented to stabilise prices and mitigate the impact of future rises in response to public concerns on the ongoing increases in fuel prices. Among these steps is involving petroleum industry stakeholders to investigate cost-control strategies and lessen consumer burden.
It is anticipated that the frequent increases in fuel prices will have a significant impact on a number of areas, most notably the cost of living in general, transportation expenses, and the pricing of goods and services. Economic difficulties may worsen as a result of higher costs for regular customers, logistics firms, and commercial drivers. Consumers may need to prepare for possible year-round variations in fuel prices due to uncertainties surrounding local currency stability and worldwide oil prices.
