The Ministry of Health (MoH) has instructed the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to launch a comprehensive investigation and deliver a report within 30 days concerning an alleged incident of patient abandonment in Gomoa Ojobi, Central Region.
This directive follows the circulation of a video on social media since June 13, 2024, depicting a woman wrapped in sheets and allegedly abandoned in a bush, purportedly by an ambulance from Winneba’s Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye issued a formal directive on June 14, 2024, stressing the urgency of the investigation and emphasizing transparency.
Public outcry in response to the video has raised concerns about patient care and ambulance services in the area.
The GHS promptly confirmed the initiation of a thorough investigation on the same day, acknowledging public demands for accountability. Dr. Okoe Boye reaffirmed the MoH’s commitment to promptly addressing the matter and ensuring that healthcare standards and patient safety are upheld across Ghana.
The MoH’s swift action aims to effectively address public concerns and restore trust in healthcare services, pending the outcome of the investigation.
