“Girls Trip 2” May Ditch Ghana for Another African Gem
“Girls Trip 2” May Shift from Ghana to Another African Destination

Ghana may not be the original location for the much awaited Girls Trip sequel. One of the movie’s stars, Regina Hall, recently posted updates implying that the setting might shift. According to Tracy Oliver, the film’s scriptwriter, Afrochella served as inspiration for the Ghanaian setting. Hall’s most recent comments, however, suggest that the production team is reevaluating the location.
Hall gave additional information about the status of Girls Trip 2 in a Zoom interview with UPI, which was conducted in support of her next movie O’Dessa. Recent changes have sparked conversations about moving the scene to another African nation, she said. She made a more ambiguous remark on The Jennifer Hudson Show before making this one.
“I heard that it may not be in Ghana actually,” Hall revealed. “They’ve since moved. I know Tracy [Oliver] and Kenya [Barris] are writing it.”
While Ghana was the original choice, Hall explained that the final decision will depend on the feasibility of production in different African locations. She hinted that South Africa might be a strong contender due to its established film infrastructure.
“But I do know it is in Africa, which is a continent, so that doesn’t narrow it down a lot,” Hall added. “I do know that it’s somewhere in Africa. It probably has a lot to do with where they’ll set the infrastructure up, which makes me think South Africa. That’s my feeling.”
With Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Queen Latifah portraying a group of lifelong friends getting back together for an exciting and entertaining journey in New Orleans, the original Girls Trip movie was a hit when it came out in 2017. The movie earned $30.4 million on its first weekend at the box office, placing it in second place. It went on to make over $115 million in the United States and Canada.
Despite the possible shift in the production location, fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel, and Girls Trip 2 is anticipated to retain the same fun and energy that made the first movie so successful. Although the production team is still working on specifics, Africa will continue to serve as the backdrop, providing a lively and culturally rich environment for the story’s next chapter.
