She emphasized that the government is dedicated to accelerating change by providing girls with ample opportunities, exposure, and training in ICT.

Owusu-Ekuful stated, “The notion that science, mathematics, and technology are solely for men is gradually shifting. We believe that with the right opportunities and training, anyone can excel in these fields.”

The Ms Geek Ghana Competition, targeting girls aged 13 to 21, encourages young females to develop technology-driven solutions for challenges in Ghana and Africa. This initiative supports the objectives of SDG Goal 5, which aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

The competition not only seeks to inspire a change in mindset towards ICT adoption among young girls but also aligns with the Ministry’s broader goal to highlight and support the contributions of women in technology. Shortlisted participants will engage in a masterclass and present their solutions to a panel.

Winners will have the opportunity to represent Ghana at the Ms. Geek Africa Competition and receive monetary prizes, business support, and other benefits. Applications are open until July 18, 2024, and can be submitted through the Ministry’s website or via email at
