Government Pays First Term Arrears for School Feeding Program Caterers

Caterers involved in the government’s school feeding program in the Ashanti Region have announced plans to strike in response to the government’s failure to pay outstanding arrears for three academic terms.

The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has cleared the outstanding payments for caterers under the School Feeding Programme for the first term. This settlement covers all 16 regions of the country.

The payments are crucial for the smooth operation of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, which provides meals to students nationwide.

The School Feeding Secretariat announced this on July 1, noting that the payments were adjusted to account for a mandatory kitchen cleaning period from October 3-6, 2023.

Consequently, official cooking days for the term began on October 9, 2023, making the total cooking days 54 instead of 58.
