Government Nullifies Post-Dec 7 Public Service Appointments
All appointments to public service made after December 7, 2024, are canceled by the government.

Significantly, after December 7, 2024, the Ghanaian government formally canceled all public service hirings and appointments from the previous Akufo-Addo administration. The government’s commitment to upholding governance norms and guaranteeing procedural integrity in public sector employment is consistent with this judgment.
The revocation was verified in a circular sent to the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) by Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff at the Presidency. The warning stressed that appointments and recruitments made beyond the specified date did not comply with accepted governance norms and principles. It was also copied to the Ghana News Agency.
The directive explicitly instructs all government institutions to annul these appointments and submit a detailed report on the actions taken to the Office of the Chief of Staff by February 17, 2025.
Mr. Debrah’s statement read: “Consistent with the government’s pronouncement regarding last-minute appointments and recruitments towards the end of an administration’s tenure, all such appointments made in the Public Service of Ghana after December 7, 2024, are deemed non-compliant with good governance practices.”
He further urged all institutional heads to ensure immediate implementation of the directive, stressing that cooperation in this matter is crucial to uphold transparency and accountability in public service employment.
Stakeholders are divided about the revocation of these appointments; some believe it will disrupt public sector operations, while others support the government’s position on governance and procedural integrity. In the upcoming days, it is anticipated that the impacted people and organizations will react to this directive.
In order to preserve order and respect governance norms, government entities are expected to strictly follow the direction and assure compliance as the February 17 deadline draws near.
