Atinga Nsobila Joel, CEO of God’s Time Khebab, is undertaking a Guinness World Record attempt by organizing a marathon barbecue lasting an impressive 90 hours. This university graduate aims to surpass the current record for the longest barbecue event, which will take place at the Legon City mall in Accra, with a target of producing 10,000 sticks of khebab. Joel shared his excitement about this ambitious undertaking on social media, announcing the start of his 90-hour barbecue marathon.

Atinga started his record attempt on Thursday, April 11, coinciding with the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration for Muslims, and plans to conclude on Sunday, April 14. The grilled meats prepared by Atinga are being distributed to Ghanaians who have enthusiastically embraced the marathon, gathering at the Legon City mall to show their support. Viral videos depict crowds lining up for complimentary khebab at the Legon City mall.

In an interview prior to starting his marathon, Atinga shared that the khebab business has been a family venture initiated by his father. He mentioned that he financed his education from primary through tertiary levels with the earnings from the khebab business. Atinga expressed his motivation for undertaking this marathon as a means to challenge the stereotype that khebab businesses are solely for those without formal education.

It’s commendable that Atinga is adding his name to the list of Ghanaians attempting Guinness World Records. It’s a reminder of the dedication and perseverance required for such endeavors. While some, like Afua Asantewaa and Chef Faila, faced setbacks, it’s important to acknowledge their courage in attempting such feats. Kaakyire Agyemang and Adu Sarfowaa are still awaiting official confirmation, showcasing the challenges and uncertainties that come with attempting Guinness World Records.
