Halle Bailey Wins Restraining Order Against Ex-Boyfriend DDG, Amid Abuse Allegations

The Grammy-nominated singer and actress Halle Bailey, who starred in the live-action Disney rendition of The Little Mermaid, has secured a temporary restraining order against her former boyfriend, YouTuber and rapper DDG (actual name Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.). Bailey claims that she was repeatedly abused verbally, physically, and emotionally during and after their relationship, which ended in October 2024, and the court order addresses these claims. Halo is the name of the couple’s one-year-old son.
Granberry was ordered by a Los Angeles judge on May 13 to keep Bailey and their child physically apart until a full court hearing on June 6. Bailey, 25, described a string of violent episodes in court filings originally obtained by the Associated Press. One such incident occurred in January, when Granberry allegedly slammed her face against a steering wheel, chipping her teeth and leaving her injured. According to reports, Bailey included photos of her wounds in her court file.
According to Bailey, the abuse continued after they split up. She claims that during a violent argument about their child, Granberry broke into her house when she wasn’t there, sent her a menacing picture of her bed that implied she was meeting other men, and smashed her home’s Ring camera. She also reported him to the police after she said he had slammed a car door on her while she was holding their son. Granberry is also forbidden from owning any firearms per the judge’s decision. Bailey also requested that the court stop DDG from targeting her online with his sizable social media following, claiming that his posts have made her the victim of threats and harassment from his fan base.
In the singing duo Chloe x Halle, Bailey and her sister Chloe gained notoriety. Since then, Bailey has developed a prosperous solo acting and music career, garnering five Grammy nominations. She became an overnight sensation thanks to her performance as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. DDG, 27, became well-known on YouTube before turning to music and has so far put out four studio albums. The decision to extend the restraining order for a maximum of five years will be made at the hearing next month.
