The late John Kumah was hailed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as one of the dynamic, honest, and industrious young men of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a promising future.

“I realised that judging from the way he speaks, comports himself and his truthfulness. He had a very bright future in Ghanaian politics. I saw him as one of those young men who would look after the party after some of us have left,” he added

While President Akufo-Addo was speaking, the late John Kumah’s family, escorted by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, formally notified him of the legislator’s passing and briefed him on the funeral plans, which would take place at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The entire meeting room was filled with melancholy as the President, Chief of Staff, other White House officials, and the grieving family all had dismal moods and some were even crying.

In keeping with custom, the family spokesperson, Kwasi Owusu Twumasi, served refreshments. When President Akufo-Addo emerged as the party’s leader and ultimately the President of the Republic, he credited John Kumah’s diligence, devotion, and hard work to the party, adding,

“He did it to my utmost satisfaction, so in my second term, I decided to promote him to the position of Deputy Minister of Finance,” he remarked, reflecting on his work as the previous Chief Executive of NEIP

The President stated that he had learned from the constituency that the late Dr. Kumah was very respectful of the community’s elders and actively engaged with the electorate, working hard on their behalf.

He assured that the government would provide a dignified funeral, expressing how much the wife and children, the family, the party, and the nation had lost with his passing.

Even though the death was painful, the president declared,

“Our faith is still in God who understands all the happenings.”

“We must also realise that God will call each of us at the proper time, just as He did with Kumah.”

He offered the family his condolences and said he will be present on March 28, 2024, for the one-week commemoration.
